The Effect of Wikis and Face-to-Face Collaborative Writing on the Writing Performance and Self- regulated Learning Skills among
Mona S. Mhmoad | 30/09/2012Wikis, as one of the Web 2.0 social networking tools, are web sites, the content of which can be edited by visitors to the site, allowing users to easily create and edit pages collaboratively. This study aims at investigating the effect of using wikis and face –to- face collaborative writing on the writing performance and self- regulated learning skills among EFL college students. The study comprises 66 female participants enrolled in Writing 4, an advanced writing course, at Level 4 in the College of Education at Dhahran Al-Janoub, King Khaled University, Saudi Arabia. The experimental group (n=34) used wikis for collaborative essay writing while the control group (n=32) used face-to-face collaboration. Results of the study revealed that students using wikis as collaborative writing tools outperformed those using face-to-face collaborative writing in essay writing performance. Besides, they outperformed them in self-regulated learning skills. The study gives implications on the potentials that wikis hold for the teaching of EFL and the area of writing skill.

Android:
Is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, developed by Google in conjunction with the Open Handset Alliance. Initially developed by Android Inc, whom Google financially backed and later purchased, Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 86 hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.Additionally, Android has a large community of developers writing applications ("apps") that extend the functionality of devices. Developers write primarily in a customized version of Java,] and apps can be downloaded from online stores such as Google Play (formerly Android Market).
Security
:
Android applications run in a sandbox, an isolated area of the operating system that does not have access to the rest of the system's resources, unless access permissions are granted by the user when the application is installed. Before installing an application, the Play Store displays all required permissions. A game may need to enable vibration, for example, but should not need to read messages or access the phonebook. After reviewing these permissions, the user can decide whether to install the application. The sandboxing and permissions system weakens the impact of vulnerabilities and bugs in applications. The complexity of inter-application communication implies Android may have opportunities to run unauthorized code.

Educational Technology with Effective Instructional Designing
Ammar a. Anas | 15/04/2012
Can we imagine what would have been the scenario if Aristotle, Plato and other founders of human knowledge were born in out iPad era? We can guess their dialectics and ideas would have received a universal response. Their principles would have been questioned widely on face book and twitter and it would have certainly helped them to be stronger and pragmatics in their views.
E-Learning offers a platform to deliver, discuss, share and recreate knowledge with the participation of teacher – learner community. This process involves all educational theories like Behaviorism, Cognitivism and Constructivism and carry on all instructional techniques like Problem Based Learning, Project-based Learning, and Inquiry-based learning.
Digitalization of knowledge is a fact and it is certainly going to have a place in our educational setting all over the world. Now the genuineness of it depends upon its delivery quality i.e. learner concerned, result oriented, regular learning and fulfilling the aims and objectives.
Digitalization of knowledge has opened a large area of research and inquiry for educationists and thinkers. There is a flow of ideas and opinions shaping out a new platform for learning and sharing information. I believe we need to work out in how to perform genuine learning through technology. Your suggestions are invited to build a powerful debate on effective instructional designing with reference to our e-Learning practices in King Khalid University.

SOME VALUABLE TOOLS, RESOURCES FOR PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT AND SUPPORT FOR E-LEARNING
Shammem Alhaque | 20/12/2011
I wanted to share a preview of some of the fascinating tools that are useful or valuable tools, resources, . So here are five of them—all of which are free to use and are excellent for learning and performance improvement/support.
Symbaloo is your personal start page to the Internet. You can use the default desktop, which consists of a number of "tiles" that contain the links to Web resources, or add your own sites. You have complete freedom to move, delete or add tile icons, which are color coded. Symbaloo could therefore be seen as your own "personal learning environment" or a place to organize learning resources for others. You can share the desktop without registering; however you do need to register to publish your "webmix."
Read-it later lets you save what you find on the Web to watch and read on any device, at any time—very useful if you haven't got time to read something and don't want to forget it. To make life even easier, there are extensions for Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera browsers as well as apps for iPhone, iPad, Androids, Blackberrys and other mobile devices. It's also integrated into more than 250 applications across platforms you might already use, like Flipboard, Seismic, Twitterific, etc.
Paper.li Haven't got time to read all the tweets or Facebook status messages from those you follow or items in your RSS feeds? Then use this service to automatically generate your own Daily Newspaper with the best stories shared by those you follow? Or if you prefer you can subscribe to the daily newspapers created by others, like The C4LPT Daily. Paper.li is just one of a growing number of content curation services that help to provide a filter to the important content.
lino is a free sticky and canvas service that requires nothing but a Web browser. You can move the stickies around and change their colors however you like. You can use lino as a personal tool, or use it with a group to share your ideas as well as your files with colleagues (or trainees). In other words it is a dead simple way of encouraging communication and collaboration with a team without an expensive overhead. You can even embed lino into your blog or Web page, and there are also iPhone and iPad apps too.
CamStudio is a free, open source screencasting tool to record screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video, which can then be converted into bandwidth-friendly streaming Flash videos. So for instance, you could use it to create demonstration videos or tutorials.
